We are well into 2023 now, so if you haven’t already, it's time to show your network some love. And lots of it.
But why we hear you ask? It's simple: Networking pays. Survey data by HubSpot reveals that 85% of all jobs are filled through networking, meaning it is essential to climb up the career ladder. In fact, 70% of all jobs are never published publicly at all.

The Five Pillars Of Network Planning
Having a clear strategy is the first step to mastering networking. Here we will show you how to build one in five simple steps.
Step 1: Set Some Objectives
You can only network effectively if you know what you want in the first place. It's easier said than done so identify some clear goals. What results do you want to achieve and when? How can networking help you? How will you measure success? Sit down and think about it.
Step 2: Analyse Your Network
Get a clear idea of who’s in your network. Look closer at your connections, the quality of these relationships and – crucially – who is missing. You can learn a lot from evaluating your current connections.
Step 3: Fill The Gaps
Now that you have reviewed things, your network’s weak points will be clearer. It’s time to plug these gaps.
Make a list of people you’d like to get to know – most people are two to three degrees away so don't be afraid to go big. Always think: how to make the connection a win-win. What value can they bring you and what do you offer in return?
Step 4: Deepen Quality
Remember the connections you already have. Are there nascent relationships that could blossom? What about those that could be deepened, through greater cooperation?
This will involve some introspection. Do you communicate in a timely and consistent manner? Could you be more available? Can you go further to help people in your network? All of these questions are important to consider.
Step 5: Maintenance
Finally, and most importantly, love your network. Wowing people and sparking fireworks in relationships that fizzle out and die is a waste of everyone’s time. Always put effort into maintaining strong and important relationships.
